Robocon, short for Robotic Contest, is an interesting game – cum – intellectual exercise for budding engineers and their enthusiastic instructors, determined to innovate and create machines for producing desired results. Participation in this activity is an end – to – end competitive experience involving concept design of a system of robots programmed to perform according to rules of the game played on a high precision technical Contest Area and to score a victory beating the competitors, all this according to a Theme declared by the Host Country. Robocon Competitions are sponsored by Asia Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU) which includes Doordarshan (Prasarbharati) of India as a member that has been organizing all activities in India for the last Fifteen years in collaboration with MIT Group of Institutions Pune, India.
This year, total 107 teams from all over the country had participated in this contest. Students of Ajay Kumar Garg Engineering College gave an impressive performance in national robocon 2018 and secured AIR 10th rank. Moreover, the college also secured 2nd rank in north India. As per Director, the college has been participating in this competition since 2014 and improving its performance year by year. This year the theme was “Nem Con”, Festival of happiness, given by Vietnam in which teams made manual and automatic robots to load and throw a shuttle with precision for it to pass through a vertical ring. The Golden Shuttlecock is thrown through the Golden Ring and when it is landed on the Golden Cup, that team will gain the victory and the match will be finished. This victory is called “Rongbay” (“Flying Dragon”). IITs, NITs, Nirma University Ahmadabad, MIT Pune, COE Pune, Vadodara Institute of Engineering Vadodara, Veermata Jijabai Technological Institute Mumbai, L. D College of Engineering, Ahmadabad and K. ”WINNER MITSUBISHI ELECTRIC GOLD CUP-2017”
AKGEC wins cash prize of 100000/- & a trip to Japan
It is a proud moment for AKGEC yet again. The AKGEC project team “Innovators” has won the ‘Mitsubishi Electric Innovators Gold Cup-2017’competition.The students won a cash prize of Rs.1, 00,000/- along with fully sponsored plant visit to Mitsubishi, Japan for Students and Faculty.
Mitsubishi Electric Cup-2017, A Second Edition of National Level Science & Technology Competition for Factory Automation Skill for engineering students, organized by Mitsubishi Electric India (MEI) in association with College of Engineering Pune (COEP) was held on 17-18 Feb, 2017 at COEP campus, Pune. The theme for this competition was ‘Intelligent Factory for Greener Tomorrow’.
The contest began with 200+ teams from various colleges all over India. Final 35 projects were shortlisted through multiple submissions of abstracts, technical expertise in project, innovation, socially acceptance, reports, viva and videos. These projects were finally evaluated by panel of judges from Japan for Design, Innovation, System Optimization, General Safety and Efficiency and Overall presentation/Demonstration.
The Competition primarily required participating teams to focus on the theme of “Intelligent manufacturing for greener tomorrow", independently design and produce a complete set of devices / models by using Mitsubishi Electric factory automation products, based on e&eco-F@ctory concepts.
For the uninitiated, AKGEC has the privilege of having MEI as one of its Industry Partner for the establishment of state of art ‘Drive & Control Lab’. This state of art lab has all the latest equipments and technology used by most of the modern manufacturing facilities in India and around the world. The students from across the country and abroad are getting trained at the specialized centres of excellence set up at AKGEC.
AKGEC with its 9 centres of excellence and 15 International Industry partners has earned national presence and international outreach in a very short span of time. It is needless to say that AKGEC is excellence personified!!!
Bigdatathon-17 a national level project competition was organised by ABESIT on 7th April 2017 to 9th April 2017. There were 4 events in the competition out of which our teams participated in two only, namely BigWar and BigQuiz.
BigWar was a continuous 24 hours project making competition to showcase the technical creativity and knowledge to develop something of practical significance. BigQuiz was a two round technical quiz competition. Our Big Data Team members won a first prize of Rs. 21000 in Big War and second prize of Rs. 2000 in Big Quiz.
It is a big moment to receive such an honour when the competition is neck to neck and the competitors are too good to be compared. Our Big Data Team members got highly satisfied with the participation.

AKGEC STUDENTS DESIGN Smart Bin – A Step towards Swachch Bharat !!!
Recently the students of AKGEC NI LabVIEW Academy @AKGEC secured First position in an annual Graphical System Design contest organized by National Instruments. This contest was organised to showcase the most innovative projects in NI Days at Bangalore. The contest began with 750 teams from various colleges all over India.
The Project “Smart Bin – A Step towards Swachch Bharat” bagged the first prize, after multiple submissions of abstracts, progress reports, videos and subsequent viva for the project. The winners bagged the prize money of 75000INR.
Smart Bin…as the name signifies can be used at any place like shopping malls, offices or organizations. The function of this Smart Bin is to collect garbage from various places and empty the same at a specified location as it gets filled.
LabVIEW platform is used to design and develop the framework for whole system. A controller Data acquisition card named “MyRIO” is mounted in the bin, so as to get all the data from the various parts of bin and give the required command further. A line follower technique is used to give direction to drive the bin towards a specified direction. An LCD monitor mounted over the top of the bin, keeps playing a video which motivates people to use bin rather than throwing wastage anywhere.
AKGEC Students are now working towards commercialization of their’ Smart Bin ‘to develop a low cost version that can be used at all public places like airports, railway stations, Government offices etc to ensure cleanliness and contribute towards a clean India. Keeping in line with the spirit of this mission, students of Ajay Kumar Garg Engineering College Ghaziabad are consistently contributing to Start Up initiatives like these and support the social cause. The College aims to foster the spirit of innovation in engineering students and expose them to the essence of experiential education through such platforms.
AKGEC INNOVATION, ‘WINSWITCH’…selected as on of the top three projects during US-India Startup forum 2016
The Startup India initiative was launched by the Government of India to create an ecosystem that drives the growth of startups, fosters entrepreneurship and promotes innovation. The American Bazar “US-India Startup Forum 2016”, recently hosted at The Lalit, New Delhi, facilitated synergy between the US investors with Indian Startups. This event witnessed many innovative startup plans & proposals, presented by Young Entrepreneurs including talented experienced professionals from different fields and students of many other reputed institutions of the country like IITs and IIMs.
AKGEC students presented many innovative startup project proposals to the team of angel investors, venture capitalists and business analysts who came all the way from US with an aim to identify new & innovative approach to take up as a business idea for investment. The startup project proposal, presented by AKGEC Student team of Third year B.Tech- Electrical Engineering branch, Mr. Abhinav Sharma and Mr. Sandeep Yadav, for the development of Electrical Smart Switch Panel named as “Win Switch” was selected as one of the top three project by the jury.
The Win Switch is an innovative smart switch panel that runs just on three wires, and reduces power consumption with zero shock promise, at a reduced cost comparable to any other touch screen panel. This switch has been designed on a technology that not only reduces power consumption but also adds up to the aesthetic beauty of the panel along with reducing the complex wirings on a panel to three wires only.
This event witnessed many innovative startup plans & proposals, presented by Young Entrepreneurs including talented experienced professionals from different fields and students of many other reputed institutions of the country like IITs and IIMs.
AKGEC INNOVATES TO CURB INDUSTRIAL POLLUTION
The rate at which urban air pollution has grown across India is alarming. A vast majority of cities are caught in the toxic web as air quality fails to meet health-based standards. Almost all cities are reeling under severe particulate pollution while newer pollutants like oxides of nitrogen and air toxics have begun to add to the public health challenge. Only a few mega cities ,where action has started, show some improvement in air quality but in most cases the particulate levels are still unacceptably high. Medium and small sized towns and cities are witnessing phenomenal spurt in pollution as severe as or more than any mega city. Air pollution in addition to causing a variety of respiratory diseases has significantly increased the death toll as well as has reduced the average life-expectancy of millions of Indian citizens.
To curb this pollution menace the engineering students of Ajay Kumar Engineering College, Ghaziabad have innovated a portable air pollution measurement device to alert the industry and monitoring body about critical situation of air pollution. This device is an 8×10 inches box which houses an array of gas sensors, XMEGA A3BU Xplained microcontroller, an XBEE S1 module and sensors. The module wherever installed detects the emission of any harmful gas beyond the risk line, and an instant warning message is sent to the mobile phone of the owner of the factory/monitoring agency for taking corrective measures to control the real time situation.
In this way monitoring, analysis and control of the Air pollution in a particular area can be done effectively. This module can be further developed for adoption by the Air Pollution Control Board of the country and can even be used as a consumer product that can be housed in homes, hospitals and industries.
This project was showcased in the professors meet held at MIT Pune and won the First prize at national level Atmel Embedded Design Contest-2014. It is evident that AKGEC stands out amongst its peer engineering institutions when we talk of innovation and creativity.
